SOUTH FLORIDA PHOTOSHOOT LOCATIONS
Before we get into a few of my favorite locations in South Florida for photoshoots, there are a few things we need to go over so grab a seat first.
Ask yourself these 3 questions when deciding on a location to do your photoshoot:
Which location would be my perfect vibe?
Before you check out any location, gather a vision for your perfect aesthetic. South Florida has locations all over that give different vibes. A helpful tip is choosing somewhere that you and/or your partner will both agree with. If the both of you are adventurous and love the great outdoors, then booking a studio session may not be in your best interest. On the flip side, if you have some type of condition where you sweat uncontrollably more than 99% of the human population then maybe consider an indoor location where there is air-conditioning because the South Florida heat could sometimes be brutal.
Does this location require a photography permit?
A nice fun fact about locations in South Florida and throughout most states is that certain venues require what’s known as a photography permit. That’s just a politically correct way for a venue to say, “you have to pay us to shoot on our property.” In South Florida, venues range from ‘free .99’ all the way to $500 depending on the venue. That goes for photography studios, creative studios, outdoor botanical gardens, hotels, and more. So keep that in mind as you make your decision.
When do I want to shoot at this location?
If you’re thinking about shooting on-location somewhere in South Florida then you want to be mindful of the time. Shooting at 8am in South Florida is totally different than shooting at 2pm. Natural elements that affect locations is the sun. In the early morning, the sun is just starting to rise so it won’t be as hot. However, the sun is at its peak so it will affect the body differently. It may cause eyes to squint if placed in direct sunlight. It also affects natural lighting. Since the sun is on top of you, that may cause shadows under your eyes and harsh lighting on the skin which may not look the most flattering on camera(there’s ways around this).
Below are a few of my favorite locations that I have personally shot at.
WORTH AVENUE
Located in Palm Beach, FL.
Worth Avenue is a beautiful dining and shopping enclave located in Palm Beach, FL. Yes, there is a West Palm Beach and a Palm Beach. It is filled with so much character, affluence, and a multitude of scenery options. You won’t need to go far if you have an outfit change. The only tricky part is finding somewhere to change. Since it is an shopping enclave, some stores may not be open when shooting. Another major plus for Worth Avenue is that it’s totally FREE! Just pay for parking(if required) and you’re good to go.
SECRET GARDENS MIAMI
Secret Gardens Miami is a South Florida favorite for engagements, maternity, birthdays, and weddings. Even though it’s about an hour drive from Fort Lauderdale, the tropical vibes is worth every penny. Speaking of pennies, this location does require a photography permit. Check out their website for more info.
Yes, that is a real horse that you can rent there.
MIAMI DESIGN DISTRICT
Located in Miami, FL.
If upscale and luxury is your vibe, well look no further. Miami Design District is all of that and then some. The perfect atmosphere for a photoshoot. Expect modern architecture and affluent shoppers. This location does not require a photography permit. Just pay for parking and you’re good to go.
I’d love to discuss more about photoshoot locations, engagement packages, and other services we offer.
I am an African American photographer that photographs throughout South Florida and beyond.
